Keeping healthy is a top priority in every season but especially during the cold months. Let’s face it, as beautiful as winter is, with the fresh white snow and the cozy warm fires, we’re often cooped up in closed areas with a lot of nasty germs circulating around and very little fresh air. This is a recipe for disaster and this years’ bugs seem to be worse than ever. Normally healthy people are getting hit hard and not being able to shake the bug for weeks on end.
Being sick is not something anyone wants. Instead, we want to have a strong and healthy immune system that will protect us from those germs, which of course will allow us to move forward with our productive lives.
This is where essential oils come in. These precious gifts of the earth can powerfully support our immune systems, keeping us from falling prey to those nasty bugs, and if, god forbid, we do get sick, they can also shorten the downtime and make it much more comfortable. Ideally, we want to prevent it from happening, so we need to be prepared. If we wait until we’re sick to do anything, it just means we suffer longer.
My 4 Top Oils To Keep Us Healthy And Happy
The Protective Blend – this blend has been studied for its efficacy in killing germs and supporting our immune system. Comprised of wild orange, clove, cinnamon, rosemary, and eucalyptus, this blend smells like Christmas in a bottle. By simply rubbing a few drops on the bottoms of your feet daily your body will be better able to react to environmental threats. For irritated throats, you can gargle with a couple of drops in some water and then swallow it to get the benefits to your immune system. You will love how quickly it reduces the discomfort in your throat. Diffusing it will clean the air and help you stay resistant. I clean my house with this blend. Putting 5 drops in a 16 oz spray bottle of water and wiping down surfaces you will rid your home, office, hotel rooms of bacterial residue, and did I say it smells awesome too.
Oregano – is a hard-hitting essential oil and should be reserved for when you feel that first tingle, that feeling that something is not right, or when it has happened and you want to eradicate it fast. DoTerra’s oregano oil is so concentrated that you will not want to put it directly under your tongue like many other companies suggest. First of all the taste is too intense and it’s one of the oils we consider spicy, so it will burn. You can either take an empty veggie capsule and put a couple of drops along with some carrier oil such as doTerra’s fractionated coconut oil and swallow it that way, or you can rub it on the bottoms of your feet. Remember to repeat a few times a day. We don’t take oregano daily because it’s so powerful that it could affect your intestinal flora, but taking it when needed and never for more than 7 days is perfectly fine. Please do drink plenty of water when taking oregano internally.
The Respiratory Blend – this is a perfect blend to use when congestion of the airways is getting you down. I like to call it the all-natural Vick’s Vaporub oil. Blending laurel, eucalyptus, peppermint, melaleuca, lemon, cardamom, ravintsara, and ravensara essential oils was so genius of doTerra. All these plants are specific for respiratory support. You can dilute a few drops in a carrier oil and rub it on the chest and under the nose for instant relief or you can put a few drops in your bedside diffuser for easy breathing all night long.
The Digestive Blend – If we are having digestive issues that have us running to the bathroom on a regular basis, relief is in this little bottle. Whether it’s going up or down this blend of anise, peppermint, ginger, caraway, coriander, tarragon, and fennel essential oils will gently help reduce those symptoms. You can take a few drops in some water and drink it down for any stomach upset and, if you can’t keep things down, then you can rub a few drops diluted on your abdomen. Same goes for the runs, by rubbing it on the lower belly in a counter-clockwise direction (opposite of the way the intestines work) you will help slow down that process get things back to normal.
Finally, I would strongly suggest taking a detox bath to help rid the body of the germs and soothe the body aches.
