Are You Messing With Failure?

Failure At Forty Five

When things are tough, the first tendency is to crawl into bed, pull up the covers and snuggle in with failure. Often, it is because of unreasonable expectations or we have once again set the bar of achievement high. And of course, that can be a good thing, nudging us out of our comfort zone. When things are not working though, life can feel pretty dire.

This week was like that. My technology failed, someone achieved something I hoped to, my health is an obstacle, oh, the list could go on. In the midst of my woes, the world suddenly faced the loss of two creative souls who captured our hearts and lives; Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. The depth of their despair juxtaposed with the light of their creativity came to mind again and again.

There is a fine line between failure and without hope. Coming from a family with a history of depression, I am aware of the pressure some put on themselves in the quest for unattainable perfection. I was taken aback at how this quote reverberated in my soul. It feels to me like a warrior’s cry going into battle. Whatever your circumstance or situation in life, take it on as a shield and know it as your truth.
